Fr. Patrick Wheeler

Priest-in-charge

Fr. Patrick Wheeler was formerly priest of the Church of the Epiphany in downtown Verdun, the product of a successful amalgamation of three local congregations, and is now Priest-in-charge of St. Matthias’. His theological interests include apophaticism, social justice, and pastoral theology. His practical interests include developing St. Matthias’ into a community that integrates itself into the life of the larger community by seeking to meet their needs. He also works creatively with liturgy and sings loudly, except when the hymn is “Forty Days and Forty Nights.”

Patrick grew up in Montreal and attended Concordia, McGill, and the Montreal Diocesan Theological College. He is married and has three daughters in their twenties who live in Montreal. His most re-read book is J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, although he notes that he also reads the Bible. Per his mother, he wanted to be a man who worked in a church when he grew up, although he personally recalls wanting to be an Expo.
