On November 1st, St. Matthias’ is holding a special service to dedicate music cabinets that were made in the memory of Doris Green (1923-2011) during regular Sunday service hours on November 1st at 10:30 am. She worked tirelessly for St Matthias’ and was a much loved member of the community.
A small reception will follow the service. The choir will sing Ave Verum by Mozart and the Community Mass by Richard Proulx.
Doris came to Canada from Widnes, Lancashire in the mid-fifties and worked for many years at the Canadian Celanese Corporation. In the late seventies Doris joined St. Matthias’ Church: she helped tirelessly at the Church in many capacities for 33 years.
The Choir Committee was served by Doris; she often provided the choir with their morning snack prior to the church service. Volunteers for the Rummage sales and the Christmas Fair were all kept going by Doris with her cart full of tea, coffee and goodies.
Doris was also a volunteer at St. Margaret’s Home and cared for the sick and elderly in her apartment building. To maintain fitness, Doris exercised at the Contactivity Center and later stayed on to help set up for the bridge games. She was always ready with a helping hand for anyone who needed help.
For her dedicated service to St. Matthias’, she was awarded the Bishop’s Award for service to the Diocese in 1993.
The music cabinets made in her honour will be dedicated on November 1st. A small reception will follow.
